    SHENYANG, June 15 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, called for more efforts to promote economic growth and raise living standards during a trip to northeastern Liaoning Province that ended Monday.

    Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visited ports, enterprises, cities and towns during his five-day tour.

    He urged industrial companies in Liaoning, an old industrial base, to innovate and build the region into an equipment manufacturing base with international competitiveness.

    The province should also accelerate the development of its coastal economic belt, said Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau.

    The Liaoning coastal belt should become a platform for the reform and opening-up drive of northeast China and another economic growth pole of the country's coastal regions, he said.

    Jia also visited villages, communities and schools to address the issues of tenement rebuilding and employment.
