According to rescuers, 2,800 cubic meters of water had gushed into the shaft of the Xiguo Xinxing Coal Mine in Linfen city at about 2:20 a.m., where nine miners were working. Five of them managed to escape while four others were trapped.
Four pumps were being used, draining 200 cubic meters of water per hour.
