BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors were urged on Friday to continue studies and offer practical suggestions for the nation to cope with the impact of the global downturn.
Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a political advisory body, made the call at the standing committee of the 11thCPPCC National Committee concluded its sixth meeting Friday.
Jia said the economy was turning for the better, but he also warned of difficulties ahead, citing the worsening global situation.
He told the advisors to focus on issues including increasing investment, expanding consumption, stabilizing exports, speeding up development of small cities and towns, improving employment, increasing farm incomes and solving housing problems.
Also Friday, experts gave the committee members lectures about climate change and low-carbon energy development.
Jia said conservation and environmental protection were China's basic national policies. He asked the members to conduct further studies in the field and offer advice for the country's sustainable development.
