HONG KONG, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang announced Tuesday that salaries of principal and senior government officers will be reduced by 5.38 percent.
Speaking at a press briefing after meeting with the Executive Council on Tuesday, Tsang said that the government aimed to face the economic downturn together with fellow citizens by taking sucha move.
Salaries of civil servants from the middle and lower levels will remain unchanged, he said.
Besides, all accountable officials will have a voluntary pay cut of 5.38 percent and this will come into effective from July 1.
