GUANGZHOU, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese national players all won their first round matches at the women's table tennis World Cup here on Friday.
Yokohama worlds runner-up Guo Yue began her campaign by beating Singapore's Li Jiao 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 11-13, 11-8.
World No. 2 Guo had the better start with a 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets. The 36-year-old Li clinched the third set as she won most of rallies.
Guo dominated the fourth set and Li responded to win the fifth set. In the sixth set, Guo started well with a 5-1 lead, which was a lead she never relinquished.
Guo will meet Wang Yuegu from Singapore in the second, who beat Paskauskiene Ruta 6-11, 11-6, 11-1, 4-11, 11-7, 11-4.
Defending champion Li Xiaoxia enjoyed her first victory with an easy 11-8, 11-3, 11-7, 11-5 defeat of Austria's Liu Jia.
"I should keep my play style and I'm trying to find my best form which helped me claim the title of last year's World Cup," said Li, who suffered her downturn recently after losing world championships semifinal to Guo.
Chinese teenager Liu Shiwen overcame an early setback by beating Hirano Sayaka from Japan 9-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3, 11-3 in her World Cup debut with a frenzied crowd rooting for the 18-year-old Guangzhou local throughout the match.
"I did not find the rhythm in the beginning two sets due to nervousness, but I gradually adapted to it afterwards," said Liu, runner-up of the Asian Cup 2009.
Feng Tianwei of Singapore downed Tie Yana of Hong Kong, China 11-7, 13-11, 11-2, 6-11, 12-10. Japan's glamorous player Fukuhara Ai ousted world No. 9 Jiang Huajun 11-5, 8-11, 14-12, 13-11, 11-7.
The World Cup have attracted 19 players from 13 countries and regions.
