Due to the large number of courses available to international students there are a number of issues that need to be reviewed when deciding which course to study. Make sure you're choosing a course for the right reasons - are you going to be happy studying the course? If you have a career in mind, do you need a specific qualification?
Your interests
There is no one course that suits everyone, so we know how important it is to find the right one for you. The best way to decide what you would like to study is to ask yourself the following questions.
- Which subjects interest me?
- What are my talents?
- Which academic skills would I like to improve?
- What job would I like to do after university or college?
Some professions require specific subjects to be studied at higher education level. If you know what career you would like to do in the future, research the job in detail to see if any qualifications are essential.
Are you qualified
You can apply to any course which interests you, but consider the entry requirements first. Some courses require particular qualifications, others require an admissions test. For instance, most of courses offered by university are taught in Chinese, so good command of Chinese language is required, that’s why many China’s universities require HSK4 or HSK 6 certificate. Likewise, for programs taught in English, you will need to show your English language ability (IELTS 5.5 or above)
Besides language requirement, part of China’s universities also has age limits and other qualification requirements.
Course content
When looking at university website to decide on which course you would like to study, you need to be careful that the actual specific detail of the course is considered. You need to read beyond the course title and course summary as the module options and content can vary significantly. It is important to be aware that many courses with the same title are actually very different in terms of content and study methods.
This is particularly important as many University courses include modules which can be selected by you depending upon what you want to learn.
