A special new year gala was held in Toronto, the Canadian city with a large Chinese community. The show titled "Carnival China Style" was held on Sunday night at the Tomson Concert Hall.
A special new year gala was held in Toronto, the Canadian city with a large Chinese community. The show titled "Carnival China Style" was held on Sunday night at the Tomson Concert Hall.
Dressed in festive costumes, artists put on an entertaining show imbued with Chinese style. Dancing, singing, the playing of folk instruments, and some acrobatics to get the heart racing, all combined to display a variety of traditional art forms.
Song and dance from the people of Uygur, Miao, and Mongol contributed to the ethnic flavor of the show.
There was also a solo performance by renowned Erhu player Jiang Kemei.
Jiang Kemei, erhu player, said, "The varied art performance showcased the sophistication of Chinese culture. We come here also to bring the sounds and customs of the home country to our compatriots who are living here. In addition, we hope our foreign friends will also enjoy the show."
A program including calligraphy, flute blowing, painting, and dance displayed the oriental flavor in a unique way.
The performance was organized by the Overseas Chinese Association and China Radio Art Troupe.
