Nottingham High School is a UK’s third best private primary and junior school, which has a long history. The school has two separate parts for boys and girls. And it was the boy part which held the China Day Festival. The festival began at 09:15 and ended at 15:45. The boys enjoyed easy Chinese, Taiji, China culture and history, Chinese handcraft, tea culture, traditional Chinese music, and dragon dance, etc. They tasted the fascination of Chinese language and culture, and showed great interest in everything. The next day we got an email from the organizer Miss Walster, which expresses great thanks to our Confucius Institute. She said in the email that, the boys were all excited about the experience and showed some Chinese words and Taiji gestures to their parents after school.
The success of this activity indicates the potential demands of English children’s understanding and learning Chinese language and culture. We will do our best to promote cultural communication, strengthen the relationship between Confucius Institute and local schools, and popularize this kind of activities.
