22nd, Aug. China embassy in Latvia and Confucius Institute hold farewell meeting for students going to study in China, over hundred officers, teacher and student’s representatives were present at the meeting.
It is reported that there were 17 Latvian students obtained the chance to study in China, 5 among which are given China government scholarship and the rest ones got Confucius scholarship.
The Ambassador Yang Guoqiang said at the meeting, that in recent years, the bilateral ties between China and Latvia continue deepening, especially in the education filed. Now both number of students studying in China and programs offered for them are increased. And Chinese proficiency of Latvian students in “Chinese bridge” increased. This year the middle school representatives will be sent to participate in the middle school group finals for the first time.
Yang Guoqiang said that all this owns to Latvia FM and MOE’s continuous efforts as well as hard-work of Latvian Sinologists and Chinese language teachers. He hope that the Latvian students going to study in China could study harder to become witness, support and pusher of Sino-Latvia cooperation.
In recent years, the Latvian people’s passion for learning Chinese language and culture is increasing, till this September, Chinese language institutes in Latvia will increase to 6 universities, 5 middle school, and number of people learning Chinese language will reach up to 400.
