From March 1st to 11th, 2012, China Scholarship Council (CSC) successfully held the Chinese Higher Education Exhibition and the China-Turkey President Seminar in Ankara and Istanbul in Turkey. The exhibition and the seminar are part of the activities of the Chinese Culture Year in Turkey, 2012. Twenty-seven higher education institutions (HEIs), such as Peking University, Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, Central South University, South China University of Technology, Ocean University of China, Northeastern University, participated in the exhibition.

The higher education exhibition was held in Middle East Technology University (METU) and Istanbul Bosphorus University (IBU) in Ankara. The Chinese embassy in Turkey, Chinese Consulate in Istanbul, Confucius Institutes in METU and in IBU have provided substantial support and assistance to the exhibition.

During the exhibition, CSC and METU co-held the China-Turkey President Seminar. 12 Universities from China and 5 universities from Turkey attended the seminar. The discussion mainly focused on student exchange, talent cultivation mechanism and higher education under globalization. Ms. Liu Jinghui, the secretary-general of CSC, and Mr Muharrem Kaplan, the general manager of department of international affairs, the Council of Higher Education in Turkey, introduced new policies regarding higher education in China and Turkey. During the seminar, Presidents of University Council of Shanghai Foreign Language University and Northeastern University, Presidents of Anhui Agricultural University and Hubei University of Chinese Medicine delivered speeches on behalf of Chinese universities, Presidents of Ankara University and METU, Vice Presidents of Baskent University and Eriziy University spoke at the seminar on behalf of Turkish universities. Both sides expressed the wish to improve education exchanges. Some of the higher education institutions reached the preliminary cooperation agreements during the seminar.

Mr Kadir Ozcaldiran, President of IBU, Mr ZHANG Qingyang, Consul general of Chinese Consulate in Istanbul, Mr YU Jianxian, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey, Mr Wang Shanping, Chinese Dean of Confucius Institute in METU and Ms Nazli Wasti, Dean of Confucius Institute in METU, attended the opening ceremony of the China-Turkey Higher Education Exhibition.

Ms. Liu Jinghui, Secretary General of CSC, during an interview with a local media, expressed that China attaches great importance to education cooperation with Turkey. She hoped that more Turkish students and scholars would come to China, get familiar with Chinese economy and society, and further develop the exchange and cooperation between China and Turkey.

The Higher Education Exhibition Committee also participated in the 14th International Education Exhibition held at the Stadium of Peace and Friendship in Athens, Greece.  More than 150 higher education institutions from 17 countries took part in the exhibition. Mr. Du Qiwen, Ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Greece, visited the exhibition and exchanged thoughts with participants from higher education institutions of China. He hoped that the higher education institutions in China could strengthen ties with Greece in the field of education, improve the quality of English-taught programs, so that more students in Greece will be attracted to study in China. He also wished that the cooperation between higher education institutions in China and Greece would lead to a deeper mutual understanding between the youths from China and Greece.
