On 6th Dec 2012 in the Confucius Classroom at the Passmores Academy in Essex year 8 students had the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous Chinese traditional art performance by Yellow Earth Theatre.

The class began with the music teacher Mrs. Qiu demonstrating traditional music instruments such as the Erhu, Pipa, Cucurbit flute and Banhu, followed by a performance of the piece 'Jasmine' on the Erhu. Mrs. Qui then taught the students how to sing in a Peking Opera voice before demonstrating it herself by singing 'Celestial Beauty Scattering Flowers' accompanied by Banhu.
Mrs. Lin the dance teacher taught the students different Chinese folk dances such as the Dai, Uygur and Ribbon dances. Finally, both teachers performed 'Stories in a Small Town' together to the applause of both the students and teachers.

Ms. Dai Xu the Hanban teacher taught the students the traditional Chinese martial art of Tai chi explaining its origins and benefits, both for self defence and health.
