In the evening of November 28th 2012, University of Malta held the Graduation Ceremony, 7 students from Confucius Institute got the graduation certificate for a diploma course in Chinese. After the ceremony, Confucius Institute at the University of Malta held an Graduation Party. In a delightful environment, the students presented wonderful performances. Their passionate Chinese songs and humorous Chinese drama won continuous applause from the audience.
Confucius Institute at the University of Malta offered Diploma Course in Chinese since October. 10th, this is a two-year part-time evening course. After their two years’ devotion and diligence, they all successfully graduated. It’s not only meaningful to the graduates themselves, but also a historical moment for Confucius Institute at the University of Malta------after the foundation of Confucius Institute at the University of Malta since 2009, it has finally trained the first graduates with diploma in Chinese.
The students of BA course in Chinese had also been invited into this party, after over one year’s preparation and application, Confucius Institute at the University of Malta successfully offered BA course in Chinese since the autumn of 2012. Among the freshmen, there’re two special students, they are mother and son. The beautiful mother is Christine; she runs a gallery and has established business relations with Chinese Art collectors. She is also very interested in Oriental art and culture, so she decided to study Chinese from the very beginning, try to promote the communication between China and western countries via language and art. On the other hand, her handsome son Max is very obsessed with Chinese characters. Though to Max, the Chinese characters are derived from pictographic symbols which are a challenge to him who is good at logical thinking. Thereupon, in the class, they are classmates, who help each other, and after class, they are family members who love each other.
The smooth graduation of Diploma course in Chinese not only represents the staged achievements, but also paves the way for the future development of Confucius Institute at the University of Malta. In the future, Confucius Institute at the University of Malta will train more graduates and play more prominent role in the exchange between China and Malta.
