COPENHAGEN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- A competition to find highly talented Chinese engineering students in Shanghai for a brief stay in Denmark was launched here on Tuesday.
Five winners will experience the quality and range of engineering studies in Denmark during a four-day long visit to Copenhagen, the contest organizers said in a press statement Tuesday.
The winners will also meet top Danish companies which have operations in China, to learn about career possibilities in Danish firms.
The contest is an initiative of Sino-Danish Network, which promotes Denmark as an education and career destination to Chinese students, and Copenhagen Capacity, the official inward investment agency of the Danish capital.
It is supported by SAS Scandinavian Airlines, which, as part of its new direct route from Shanghai to Copenhagen, has reserved five free roundtrip seats for talented engineering students from Shanghai for the competition.
In Denmark, the winners will visit the Technical University of Denmark, and Aalborg University's Copenhagen campus, as well as shipping company A.P. Moeller-Maersk and catalyst manufacturer Haldor Topsoee.
The Copenhagen city authorities are also keen to promote the capital as a business-friendly knowledge hub which is open to international students and foreign workers. Most major Danish firms are headquartered here, and it is home to several life science, IT, and other research and development clusters.
"We look forward to welcoming Chinese talents to Copenhagen. The city has world class universities, a great portfolio of international companies, leading clusters and is simply a great place to study, work and live," says Claus Loenborg, Managing Director, Copenhagen Capacity, in the statement.
The competition is open to Chinese engineering students in Shanghai, who can access the competition rules and requirements at the website www.sinodanishnetwork.com.
A committee representing the Danish Consulate General in Shanghai, SAS, Sino-Danish Network and Copenhagen Capacity, will screen candidates following the March 8 contest deadline.
The five winners will visit Copenhagen from Mar. 25 - 29, 2012, and will record and report their experiences here via video diary and daily Weibo posts.
