November 24th, 2012 Confucius Institute at Tallinn University held open day activities. 80 Chinese culture enthusiasts from all circles and areas of Estonia participated in the activities.

The main forms of the activities are classroom lectures and interactive handwork classroom, which include the introduction of Chinese culture, experiencing the Chinese language, health preserving of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), paper cutting, calligraphy and painting. Majority of the participants in the class of Chinese cultural introduction, health preserving of TCM and Chinese language experience are college students and the community, who are interested in Chinese culture and language. They had a good interaction with the teachers and discussed about a variety of cultural phenomena, TCM knowledge and language characteristics, which deepened their own understanding of the Chinese culture, history and language.

The open activities of paper cutting, calligraphy and Chinese painting attracted mainly young children and their parents. They were curious about the wonder art of paper cutting and excited to see the beautiful Chinese characters and patterns cut out by their own hands. In calligraphy class, they followed the teacher to learn how to use a brush to write Chinese characters, and then they wrote their favorite Chinese characters on the prepared T-shirt personally with the help of the teacher. The vivid bamboo painted with a brush in the Chinese painting class made them feel the different flavor between Chinese and Western painting.

At the end of the lively and busy cultural activities, the participants left with their own works feeling not enough participating in the activities. They hope that such cultural interaction activities can often be held by Confucius Institute and look forward to the next opportunity for the participation.
