In recent years, number of foreign students is increasing. In 2009,a total of 2,38,000 foreign students from 190 countries and areas came to study in China’s 610 higher schools, research institutes and other educational institutions, over 32,000 of which are medical students, and the western medicine majored ones reached over 20,000, becoming the first biggest group among all the foreign students except for languages students and keeps growing year by year.

As it is known that, for a longtime, China carried out methods that teaching students Chinese first and teaching them degree course in Chinese, this goes against international students’ understanding, learning and using of the medicine. The foreign students faced with difficulties in language translation and going through Medical Licesing Examination. The teachers construction of teaching in English is far away to meet teaching demand of medical majored international students. Hao Pin said that strengthening English-instructed medical program teachers’ construction and improving standard and quality of English-instructed teaching were very urgent.

"Ministry of Education Study in China Teaching staff training center (medicine)” enrolled 35 students in its first term, the students are from Fudan University, Xiamen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and other universities. the training content includes macroscopic teaching management such clinical medicine majored undergraduates’ education arrangement and training plan, English-instructed programs’ teaching methods and management as well as study in China policies explanation and so on, but also it contains collection and assessment of English cases, skill and principle of wards rounds, English teaching medical undergraduates examination standard and assessment, imitating hospital course settings, standard bilingual patient training and other training.

Tianjin Medical University has over 10 years’ experience in English teaching of medical student, the “Construction and Practice of English-instructed clinical medicine majored students teaching quality and assurance system” project that President Hao Xishan of Tianjin Medical University won “National class teaching achievements first prize” in 2009, being highest prize that overseas students education has made in teaching innovation and teaching achievements so far. The student enrollment of Tianjin Medical University ranks at first among western medical universities in China.
