According to Professor Gao Xin, Director of the Confucius Institute at Dongseo University, the foreign audience could not understand Mandarin so the opera selection and performance forms were very important. Therefore, the tour used the forms with “interpretation” and required the professional actors and actresses from Shandong Peking Opera Theatre to meticulously arrange the Peking Opera segments with fewer dialogues, such as the segments of “Greetings to the Spring”, “Farewell to My Concubine”, “San Cha Kou” and “The Adventure in Dragon King’s Palace”, etc. In addition, the theme song of “Dae Jang Geum” and the “Doraji”, etc. were specially performed. This approach was very well received by the audience, as marked by their enthusiastic applause. They were unwilling to leave after the end of the performance, and vied with each other to take group photos on the stage. All Korean audience members learnt an authentic Chinese sentence, which was: “Good! Good! Very Good!”, to show their praise and congratulations to the audiences.
During this Chinese Peking Opera tour in South Korea, the Confucius Institutes in South Korea, such as the Confucius Institute at Cheju Halla College and the Confucius Institute at the University of Incheon offered great support. Through this event, the communication between the Confucius Institutes has been strengthened and their popularity has been promoted. More Korean people have started to pay attention to Confucius Institutes and thus gotten interested in traditional Chinese culture.

The success of the overseas Peking Opera Tour with “interpretation” shows that is The Confucius Institute at Dongseo University will continue to explore various forms of cultural promotion and make further contributions to giving Chinese culture more international exposure.s still full of vigor and glamour.
