On November 20, Chinese teachers of Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia organized an activity named "to strengthen the practice teaching, Chinese language into the attractions’. Students were led to the capital botanical garden and the zoo so that they could learn Chinese language in real scenes while visiting and having fun.
Chinese director He Yi, starting from the question "Have you been to China”, gave a brief introduction of some Chinese scenic spots such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, etc., and also asked the students to talk about some famous attractions of Zambia or other countries. By contrast, the students achieved a better understanding of Chinese culture, and learned some new words. "We must go to China, we are going to see the Great Wall of China", the students told the truth. A Dutch student Aiven said cheerfully, "I'll go right now!”
Laughing and talking, the teachers and students left the garden for the zoo. It started to rain but the students’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese language was not reduced at all. Chinese teacher Niu Xiquan put forward the topic “what animals do you like?” After constant practice, students learned the names of animals and some useful expressions about animals while visiting. Chinese teacher Guo Guangwei explained, in a humorous and exaggerated way, the words and phrases “really ugly”, “stinky”, "faster”, " slowly, "and soon. In such beautiful environment the students took great interest in learning Chinese language and talked about the methods and significance of it.
This practice of teaching and learning in real scene and fun stimulated the students’ interest in learning Chinese language and was very popular with the students of Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia. They hope to have more opportunities to participate in such activities.
