On 11 Feb, 2013, the Confucius Classroom in Wellington College in UK held a grand celebration to welcome the Chinese New Year. More than one hundred students took part in the celebration, together with some teachers, parents and the residents in the community.

The hall of the school was deliberately decorated by the traditional Chinese knots, lanterns, couplets and paper cuts. The Chinese elements combined harmoniously with the traditional European style hall. The various Chinese snacks were also served to the visitors. Year 13 students read the poem Say Goodbye to Cambridge Again with full passion In order to welcome the new year, the students who are learning Chinese prepared different performances. First of all, led by their Chinese Teacher,Year 9 students sang the Chinese poem of Tang Dynasty --- Jingyesi and xunyinzhebuyu .

What attracted the audience most was the performance given by Year 11 students—Tai Chi Fan. Together with the teacher, the students performed each action accurately, demonstrating this traditional Chinese art. The sound of opening the fan amazed the audience. In order to show their fluency and beautiful pronunciation, the students from Year 12 read the poem Say Goodbye to Cambridge Again by the famous Chinese poet Xu Zhimo. When the music rang, the students read the poem with their understanding and feeling into it. Their performance impressed the audience a lot.

The last performance was the song given by teachers in MFL coming from different countries. Dressed beautifully and elegantly, they sang to the music with full emotion, which excited the audience. In order to celebrate this new year, the Confucius Classroom also invited a group of Chinese professional dancers and a musician.

They danced the Chinese Northeastern Yangge and Chinese Gongfu. The most attractive was the traditional instrument Erhu. During the performance, a game was played in which the students answered some questions about China. After the performance, the visitors tasted the Chinese tea as well as the various snacks. They shared their ideas on the New Year and experience in learning Chinese. It was such a wonderful occasion when the students had the chance to get close to China, feel the festival atmosphere and show their talents in Chinese culture.
