On February 17, 2012, Northwest Normal University Art Troupe arrived in Khartoum and grandly performed in the Confucius Institute Spring Festival gala at Friendship Hall. The event was sponsored by Hanban and undertaken by Northwest Normal University. The Chinese ambassador in Sudan, LUO Xiaoguang; the Saudi Arabian, Jordanian, Norwegian and some other countries’ ambassadors to Sudan; senior officials in Ministry of Culture and some other Sudanese government sectors; together with over one thousand Chinese and local people watched the performance.

The Lantern Festival Dance,the ensembles of Erhu and Suona,the Bowls Balancing Dance, the Chinese Kungfu and magic shows won great applauses for their superb artistry and rich oriental flavors. The gala was climaxed by the Chinese and Sudanese chorus sang by actors in unison with Sudanese teachers and students of Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum.

Led by LIU Zhongkui, the vice president of Northwest Normal University, the art troupe also performed at the opening ceremony of the annual international academic conference of University of Khartoum. They impressed the Sudanese audiences with their fascinating performance in Omdurman National Theater as well. In addition, the art troupe interacted with students at the teaching branche of Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum.

The art troupe was given a lot of support by the Chinese Embassy in Sudan. In the embassy, Ambassador LUO kindly received the art troupe and invited them to a party with embassy officials. The University of Khartoum assisted the art troupe in many aspects. The successful gala provided a perfect opportunity of enjoying the Chinese culture experience for Sudanese, especially for the students of Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum. It also inspired them to learn Chinese with greater enthusiasm.
