In order to strengthen the communication between China and the U.S., to attract the college students and people from the community to feel interesting about calligraphy and Chinese culture, then promote the Chinese education, Confucius Institute at Webster University Held the Calligraphy Exhibition names “The Way of Calligraphy”. The exhibition was held at Webster University and hosted by Deborah Pierce, the dean of Confucius Institute at Webster University, on 8th December. There are almost one hundred people from the Education Department, Art Department, and local schools attended the exhibition. Most of the works on this exhibition are written by Yanzi Geng, the Chinese teacher of Confucius Institute at Webster University, and Ron Diefenbacher, an American calligraphy enthusiast. As an American artist that did not know any Chinese, he studied calligraphy for only one and half year, from the beginning of just appreciating the Chinese character to study the calligraphy step by step, and now he makes such great achievements. The calligraphy now has already become the window of getting knowledge of Chinese culture and the bridge of communication between China and the U.S. Ron Diefenbacher mentioned in the interview, “In my opinion, the Chinese character is a kind of art, and I can feel the rhythm of them when practicing calligraphy.” When we came to a picture written with “Chinese Long”, he explained that it has a name as “the Fifty Dragon”, because he practiced for fifty times. Most of his works are firstly translated in English and then go back to Chinese and keep practicing after. Besides, all the calligraphy works are framed by he himself. In addition, there are also calligraphy experience zone, tea culture experience zone, and Chinese food zone, where attendants can try the calligraphy, taste the Chinese tea, and have the Chinese food, which offers them more Chinese culture experiences.
