Mulatu Teshome can speak fluent Chinese. When he talked about Chinese culture, he seemed to be really erudite and said a lot. In 1976, Mulatu studied Chinese in Beijing Language and Culture University. In 1977, Mulatu entered into the Perking University and studied philosophy. In 1982, Mulatu got the Bachelor’s degree. Mulatu got the Master’s degree and Doctoral degree in the department of National Policy from 1985 to 1991.
When Mulatu talked about his studying in China, he said “When I was a child, I really wanted to be an aviator. Because I thought their uniforms were very handsome. With time went by, I was impressed by revolutionary ideas because of political situation’s instability. At that time, Mao Zedong was my idol. When I entered into high school, I got admission qualifications to study in China University.”
After Mulatu came to Beijing, his Chinese level improved quickly. At the same time, Mulatu were familiar with surrounding and made a lot of Chinese friends, chatting with them, drinking with them, and going shopping with them. Especially, Mulatu is really satisfied with the education of Peking University, which urges him to continue his study of Master degree and Doctoral degree.
In 2003, Mulatu visited to China and particularly visited his teachers in the Peking University. When he recalled that memories, he was filled with emotion and said “If I don’t see street name, I can’t believe it is the place that I was familiar with before. China’s economic growth is really fast and it is worth learning for all countries.”
Mulatu’ s son really likes China and he announces to his dad “I want to study in China when I grow up, and I will study hard for Doctoral degree in Peking University.”
