Charming music and throbbing drums are features of ethnic Zhuang performances. The Zhuang people are the largest ethnic minority in China. They are well known as a musical bunch. Let’s take a look at their unique instruments and sample their music.

This band of young singers are one of many dwelling in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southern China.

These girls specialize in Tian Qin, a traditional string instrument with over 12 hundred years of history.

Another special event of the Zhuang people is the drum festival. With over 800 years of history, the electric performance is believed to bring blessings.

Zhengji is 10 years old. He’s proud to be part of the show.

Zheng Ji, Drummer, said, "I practised beat by beat for two years"

Su Shiba is well into his sixties, but he is still serving as the head of the band, and he is as energetic as ever.

Su Shiba, Lead Drummer, said, "The longest show we put on lasted 7 days and 7 nights. We took turns. When one gets tired, they makes this special beat and another person replaces them right away. It was non-stop action."

Many would agree that it’s this relentless spirit that has kept the Zhuang cultural heritage alive and well.
