Which students need to provide a transfer letter when applying?

If you are already studying in China and have not completed your current studies, and you plan to apply for a new school, then you need to prepare a transfer certificate.

Many students have asked whether they can obtain the admission letter from the new school first and then ask their current school to issue a transfer certificate. The answer is No. The transfer certificate should state that you are a current student of the school, your attendance rate, your performance at school, and indicate that the school has no objections to your transfer. Only when your current school confirms that your performance is normal, your attendance rate meets the requirements, and agrees to your transfer, will the new school issue you an admission letter.

Additionally, the transfer certificate is generally required to be issued on the school’s official letterhead, including the school’s contact information, and stamped by the relevant department. The new school may also contact your current school to verify your enrollment status as needed.

Please also keep in mind that, the new school usually helps you apply for a new residence permit only after you report for registration at the start of the semester and complete the freshman registration. Before that, you must ensure that your residence permit remains valid even after the new school starts.
